چکیده مقاله |
Chromium pollution is one of the serious environmental hazards in today's world. Various methods have been used to manage and remove chromium contamination from soil. The electrokinetic remediation method to transport chromium from the soil and combining it with the ability of chromium-reducing microorganisms to convert the dangerous hexavalent chromium remaining in the soil into non-toxic trivalent chromium can be a suitable way to remediate the soil. The purpose of this research is to design a new bioremediation-electrokinetic (Bio-EK) remediation process to increase treatment efficiency of chromium contamination in soil. In this study, chromium-reducing microorganisms were used instead of synthetic compounds, to decrease secondary contamination. In particular, the microorganisms were used to reduce the toxic and mobile hexavalent chromium Cr (VI) to a less toxic and immobile form (trivalent chromium Cr (III)). The experiments were conducted using spiked 500 mg/kg of chromium in the soil. The results showed a maximum chromium removal of 81.76% and 95.79% by EK and BEK, respectively, at the end of 8 days. The results indicate that employing the microorganism cultures improved Cr (VI) reduction. |
