چکیده مقاله |
Electrokinetic remediation is a promising process to remediate both organic and metallic contaminants. The Coupled bio-electrokinetic process combines the ability of microorganisms in degrading or affecting different types of contaminants with the transport mechanisms of electrokinetic process in removing pollutants from soil or sediment. As the cell walls of the microorganisms is sensitive to electrical current and different surrounded ions, there must be a great attention to monitor the microbial population in soil under electrical field. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of voltage gradient on soil microbial population during the electrokinetic process and evaluate recovery of it after the experiments in sandy soil. The microbial population was observed in two different voltage gradients of 1 and 2 V/cm. In both experiment the cell death and reduction in microbial number was observed. Nevertheless, the slope of this reduction was less in lower voltage and the microbial community was able to recover itself faster. |
